IAC Excursion to Community-Based Tourism (CBT) at Bangrong Community

On Wednesday, 3 September 2025, the International Affairs Centre (IAC) organized an excursion to Bangrong Community in northeast Phuket. A total of 38 participants -including international and Thai students, together with IAC staff - joined the trip to experience Bangrong’s Community-Based Tourism (CBT) model and learn more about the local way of life in Phuket..

The program began with a Batik handbag painting activity using patterns rooted in Peranakan culture, with pandan juice and chili biscuits served as local welcome refreshments.

Following this, participants explored the community’s main economic crops. They visited a rubber plantation where a local expert demonstrated the traditional technique of tapping rubber. At the nearby rubber processing factory, students learned how milky latex is transformed into products ready for use in various industries.

The excursion continued to a coconut farm and pineapple plantation. Here, local hosts demonstrated how to collect and peel coconuts and pineapples. Fresh coconut was then grated and used in a cooking session where participants prepared kanom kho (a local dessert) and pineapple jam with crackers.

The day concluded with a delicious Thai set meal at a nearby local restaurant before returning to the campus.
