On October 30, 2025, Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, led by Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pun Thongchumnum, warmly welcomed delegates from the Open University 5 (OU5), a consortium comprising Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Hanoi Open University, Open University Malaysia, The University of the Philippines Open University, and Universitas Terbuka.

The visit focused on exploring Phuket’s distinctive tourism landscape and gaining a deeper understanding of how PSU Phuket, as a leading institution in the region, contributes to tourism education and research.

As part of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayanon Phucharoen, Deputy Dean for Research and Graduate Studies of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, delivered an insightful lecture on Tourism in Phuket. The session highlighted the island’s key economic drivers and examined ongoing strategic shifts within its tourism development model.

The lecture was followed by a productive discussion, during which the delegates raised questions to better understand PSU Phuket’s approaches to tourism education and research and how the university responds to the evolving needs of the industry.

Afterward, the delegates toured the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, observing state-of-the-art laboratories that support student learning and practical training.
